David Schlueter practiced for almost 40 years as a full-time litigator, handling a variety of matters in construction, construction defect, real estate, personal injury and business litigation.
David’s mediation and arbitration practice includes a wide spectrum of matters, including real estate, elder/adult, family, bodily injury and insurance. His real estate practice in both litigation and mediation/arbitration has included cases involving neighbor disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, defective rehab and non-disclosure. David also mediates many construction disputes through the Arbitration Mediation Conciliation Center (AMCC).
Attorney and lead mediator David Schlueter is a member of the Southern California Mediation Association and Academy of Professional Family Mediators. He is a panel member of the California Association of Realtors Mediation Center (C.A.R.) and an arbitrator for the California State License Board and California Contractors State License Board.
Being involved in a dispute is never fun- it is extremely expensive in terms of time, money and emotional capital. Formal litigation is long and the most expensive, while arbitration can also be expensive- and both have someone else make the final decision for the parties.
In mediation, the parties have input and a say as to how the conflict is resolved. The mediator helps guide the parties to this mutual resolution, asking needed questions and focusing on important issues.
My Midwestern upbringing has served me well as a mediator in that I am empathetic to the issues for all parties involved and am a good listener. I pay close attention to both spoken and unspoken messages in order to understand the issues and concerns driving the conflict.
Even when I was litigating, I tried never to let emotions drive the train and, as a mediator, strive to help both counsel and the parties get a good perspective on the risks and opportunities both in continuing to litigate as well as in negotiating settlement.
My easy manner is something I learned from my father, who was a careful and thoughtful problem solver, whether doing it in his work as a mechanical engineer or in navigating the challenges of raising a family.
I bring knowledge gained over forty years as a litigator and a breadth of mediation training and experience to every case I handle, helping parties reach a result which is mutually beneficial and brings an end to the conflict.
